Accelerate and create a data science project in less than 24 hours! Use open-source datasets to produce visualizations and use data science and its applications to arrive at meaningful decisions and conclusions about the world. Come out of the event with a fully-fledged data science project to add to your portfolio.
Schedule

Requirements
- Teams may have up to 4 members, all of whom must be currently enrolled at a US college or university.
- All work must be submitted as a Jupyter Notebook (.ipynb) file via Github/Colab, containing your full analysis, code, visualizations, and written conclusions.
- Teams must also create a visual presentation (up to 5 minutes) summarizing their project, methodology, and key findings. You can use any format you like (PowerPoint, Canva, Video)!
- Projects should be organized under one of the following tracks: Biotech, Fintech, or Environmental/Social Impact — but these are suggestions, not requirements. Teams are welcome to explore any topic they find compelling under the Misc. Track.
Track 1: Biotech. Arrive at medically-engaged conclusions about the future of healthcare and biotechnology; bioinformatics.
Track 2: Fintech. Use data science principles to create accurate and precise predictions about the stock market and banking.
Track 3: Environmental/Social Impact. Examine the future of global warming and climate change by predicting climate patterns, optimizing energy consumption, and managing environmental resources; explore how data can be used to solve and confront global issues such as poverty, water/shelter access, and other Sustainable Development Goals.
Track 4: Miscellaneous/Open Track
Prizes

The project with the best score!
Best Project - Biotech Track
The project that arrived at the most meaningful medically-engaged conclusions.
Best Project - Fintech Track
The project that made the best predictions about the stock market and banking, and/or made meaningful conclusions about the financial world.
Best Project - Social Impact Track

Judging Criteria
-
Technical Complexity
Did they just make a bar chart, or did they use a machine learning pipeline? -
Data Integrity
How did they handle missing values or outliers? Where does the data come from? Is the data trustworthy/legitimate? -
Storytelling
Is the 5-minute video clear, and are the visualizations intuitive? Could someone who does not understand the inner workings understand the conclusion? -
Innovation
Is the "meaningful decision" they arrived at original or impactful?
